#Culture And Talents

Natixis has supported the Paris Opera since 2015 as founding sponsor of its Academy and main sponsor of the Musicians in Residence program, as part of its commitment to playing an active role in passing on culture across the generations and contributing to the emergence of the talents of the future. Natixis further enhanced its support when extending its sponsorship in 2021, as it accompanies the development of a gender-balanced lyrical music conductor training program at the Academy.

The Paris Opera Academy

The Paris Opera created the Paris Opera Academy in 2015 as part of its broader commitment to training talented young people and building awareness among young audiences. Sitting at the very heart of the Opera, the program is designed to promote cultural expertise and knowledge across the generations, as it pursues two primary goals i.e. artistic education and professional training of young artists in residence.

The Academy supports the emergence of the professional musicians of the future, welcoming almost 30 artists from the world over to its residence program each year to complete their training, and grow and learn alongside renowned professionals. The Academy will soon launch a new gender-balanced conductor training program with the aim of bolstering women’s representation in the profession, which currently only has 4% women in France.

From shows performed by children as part of the artistic and cultural education program Ten months of school and opera through creations commissioned from established artists and bringing together young artists in residence, the Academy draws on all its resources to contribute to the renewal of audiences and art forms and help a new generation of artistic talent emerge.

“Musicians-in-residence”

As part of the Musicians in Residence program, young artists from across the globe recruited after an international audition can complete their musical training with musicians from the Paris Opera Orchestra.

Under the authority of the music director, the musicians in residence play in the pit as supplementary musicians in about six productions every season. Each musician in residence is tutored and trained by a full-time member of the Orchestra. Musicians also perform at chamber music concerts at the Olivier Messiaen Amphitheater at the Bastille Opera and take part in the masterclasses organized by the Academy for all the artists in residence.

Musicians on work-study programs receive training to enable them to understand new aspects of their profession i.e. initiation on digital sound resources, orchestra conductorship, etc.

Orchestra conductors in residence – welcoming women and men

The Paris Opera marks a new chapter in its history in 2022 as it develops the conductors in residence program at the Academy to train the lyrical music conductors of tomorrow, with equal gender representation. This program is designed to promote equal opportunities for men and women and ensure a gender balance in recruitment for conductor positions.

This residence program will allow young conductors to train with renowned professionals and develop new opera conductor skills that differ from those used when conducting a symphony i.e. insight into vocal techniques and singing techniques and the lyrical repertoire.

Natixis is particularly proud to support this new program, which chimes with our own commitments on promoting and supporting young talents, and pursuing gender equality in the workplace.
